Generative AI in Game Art: From Misconception to Responsible Practice
Generative AI continues to generate strong reactions within the game development community, particularly in the context of game art production. This roundtable is designed as an open discussion to establish a shared understanding of what generative AI is, how it functions, and how it is being used by professional artists and studios today.
Participants are invited to share their experiences, concerns, and perspectives on using generative AI as an assistive tool within art pipelines. Topics will include ethical considerations such as data sourcing, the use of locally curated libraries, and the distinctions between responsible, artist-led workflows and unstructured or automated use.
The discussion will also explore how generative AI is perceived by peers, studios, and players, and how that perception can influence creative trust, transparency, and a game’s reception. This session is intended as a collaborative conversation rather than a presentation, welcoming differing viewpoints and encouraging thoughtful dialogue around the practical, ethical, and reputational aspects of generative AI in game art.
