Level Design: Are Paper Designs Really Necessary?
This roundtable aims to bring together designers from diverse backgrounds to debate the value – and limits – of the very first stage of any game level: the Paper Design. How do you use a Paper Design? Just as a sketch for yourself – or to communicate your level to fellow devs? Do you even create a Paper Design, or are you one of those who never touches a pencil and dives straight into the editor? How much detail should go in a Paper Design according to you? Etc. etc. Together you’ll explore when/how/if Paper Designs accelerates creativity, when it becomes a bottleneck and if there’s an in-between.
